چکیده

ONE OF THE IMPORTANT PROBELMS that needed to be investigated is the effect of muscle activity on the mechanisms of the neck injuries resulting from collision at low speeds. It has been experimentally indicated by Ono et al. [1] that the cervical muscles can react fast enough to significantly reduce the head angular displacement during the impact. Because of it, the modified finite element model of cervical spine which implements the Hill-type multi-bar muscle, was analyzed to study the mechanisms of the neck injuries. The activation of the neck musculature was determined using EMG data from the volunteer tests. The result from this analysis is to understand the mechanisms of injury to cervical facet joints.

Developing Experimental Cervical Dummy Models for Testing Low-speed Rear-end Collisions

In recent years, many studies have been made in the biomechanical and other fields on, “whiplash” or cervical vertical sprain which is on type of injury sustained by vehicle occupants in low-speed rear-end collisions. This paper describes a cervical analysis of whiplash occurring in the lower rear-end collision. In particular, it describes the use of a more humanized biomechanical cervical mode...

Crash Injury Analysis of Knee Joint Considering Pedestrian Safety

Background: Lower extremity injuries are frequently observed in car-to-pedestrian accidents and due to the bumper height of most cars, knee joint is one of the most damaged body parts in car-to-pedestrian collisions. Objective: The aim of this paper is first to provide an accurate Finite Element model of the knee joint and second to investigate lower limb impact biomechanics in car-to-pede...

A Monte Carlo Simulation of Chain Reaction Rear End Potential Collisions on Freeways

In recent research on modelling road collisions very little attention has been paid  to rear-end chain reaction collisions, which is characterized by more than two vehicles involved in a collision at the same time. The core aim of the present research is to develop a methodology to estimate such potential collision probabilities based on a proactive perspective, where deceleration rate to avoid...

A New Test Method for the Assessment of Neck Injuries in Rear-end Collisions

Whiplash injuries due to rear-end car collisions is one of the most aggravating traffic safety problems with serious implications for the European society. Yearly more than a million European citizens suffer neck injuries from rear-end car collisions, implying tremendous societal costs. Therefore the European Community has sponsored the European Whiplash project. The objective of this paper is ...

Iwamoto 1 DEVELOPMENT OF A FINITE ELEMENT MODEL OF 5 PERCENTILE FEMALE WITH MULTIPLE MUSCLES AND ITS APPLICATION TO INVESTIGATION ON IMPACT RESPONSES OF ELDERLY FEMALES

The rates of fatality and injured persons of elderly people are gradually increasing in automotive accidents in Japan. In particular, elderly female occupants are most susceptible to injuries, especially on thorax and head-neck regions, based on previous studies using automotive accident data. This study developed a finite element (FE) model of 5 percentile female (AF05) with multiple muscles, ...
